About Me

I'm Stephanie Schwartz, a writer who cares a lot about voice. I’ve been a journalist for most of my career, starting at Bloomberg News and eventually turning to magazine journalism, where I traveled and wrote features on a wide range of topics (which was my dream). I’ve also been hired to write fiction (the other dream) and have worked as a medical writer, translator, editor, teacher and lecturer.

Over time I realized how hard it is to stay aware of your voice while also seeking to please your audience and your bosses. I came to believe that as important as it is to orient your writing towards these outside elements, the core of your power when writing is your voice. As I make it a central consideration in my work and teach it to others, I see the incredible effect of this focus. (name the effect)

Why Write in Your Voice?

It's impactful

Humans react to other humans. When you write in your voice, your emotion comes through as well as details and xxxx. People feel it and they pay attention.

It runs deep

You can use your voice to write about anything, and sometimes it just creates interesting color and style. Other times it brings up deep thoughts that benefit others and teach you something about yourself.

It's satisfying

Writing in your voice can be fun and joyful. It can also be hard. Either way, it tends to be satisfying because you can feel that you are doing something real and worthwhile. This satisfaction makes you more likely get the writing done.

“I took a phenomenal writing workshop from Stephanie Schwartz. I’ve attended and taught my fair share of writing workshops over the years, but Stephanie’s approach stood out. She encouraged us to write more, write faster, and write more authentically, starting from a place of emotion and honesty, and then shaping it into something structured. I was surprised by how quickly she got us into our real voices. It wasn’t about perfection. It was about truth.”
